Do you know what's in your soap?
Many commercial soaps are made with the most economical ingredients which contain chemical detergents and synthetic agents to help it lather and clean. While these ingredients are very cost effective, they can leave your skin feeling dry and irritated.
Handmade soap is different. We create each batch by hand, which allows us to focus on producing a high quality product made with natural food-grade butters and oils.

What are Bath Salts?
Bath Salts are usually made from different salts such as magnesium sulfate (Epsom Salt), sodium chloride, and sea salt, and are often scented with light fragrances or essential oils. Many choose to add botanicals such as rose petals or lavender buds to their mixture as well. Bath salts are then added to a tub of warm water for an relaxing, soothing bath. For centuries, many people have claimed that soaking in bath salts help alleviate various ailments.

Smells Yummy....Can I Eat It?
While many body butters smell good enough to eat, please don't! Instead, give your skin some extra delightful nourishment.
Handmade body butters are similar to lotion, although usually much thicker in consistency. This makes body butters very effective in moisturizing dry skin, helping it feel younger and rejuvenated.

Exfoliate & Hydrate
Our handmade sugar scrubs are great for exfoliating dead skin cells, leaving your skin feeling silky and soft. As a natural humectant, sugar draws moisture from the air and into your skin, helping to moisture your skin.
We offer a variety of handmade sugar scrubs with either essential oils or fragrance oils. Gently massage the handmade sugar scrub onto your skin and then rinse with warm water.

You have probably heard that handmade soap is made from sodium hydroxide, more commonly known as lye. You are also probably thinking, "Isn't lye bad for you? I don't want to put that on my body."
We couldn't agree more. While lye is used as one of the raw ingredients when creating handmade soap, none of it remains in the final soap product. How is that possible? The butters and oils are mixed in precise calculated proportions with the lye. This step then starts the chemical reaction process called saponification. In this process, the molecules that make up the lye combine with the molecules in the oils and butters, and become a completely new product - SOAP! At this point, there is no longer any lye remaining in your handmade soap.
The Handcrafted Soap & Cosmetic Guild is a non-profit trade association that services the handcrafted soap and cosmetic industry. They are a tremendous resource for all of us in this industry.
Currently, HSCG is helping bring awareness to the huge issue of unrecycled plastic waste. This type of waste doesn't break down like paper and can take 10-20 years or more to decompose. As a result, many areas of our planet are being affected, especially our oceans.
One way we, as consumers, can help is by reducing the amount of products that we purchase in plastic bottles that are later thrown away. Purchasing bar soap that is packaged in biodegradable packaging is one way to help in this endeavor. At DHC Soap and More, we are excited to support this initiative, and we have eliminated plastic packaging on our homemade bar soaps. Each bar is now packaged in biodegradable boxes or with a simple paper band.
In a continued effort to eliminate plastic, we will be changing our packaging for our bath bombs in 2020.
